Gujarat’s one and only hill station, Saputara has always been limelight for its adventure sports and natural beauty, this time the place is in news for its monsoon festival, which has been extended for one month. Keeping in view the immense popularity of the event among tourists, the state government has increased the length of this festival till September-end. The govt. has reported a minimum of 2.7 lakh tourists in the month of August only.
Previous year, around 2.3 lakh tourists came to Saputara at the time of this monsoon festival and this is the third consecutive year that it has allured highest number of visitors. Gujarat hotels and resorts are doing an excellent business and around 700 rooms in the hill station were booked throughout the last month. “We had more than 90 per cent occupancy in our two Gujarat hotels at Saputara,” Dipen Shah, the group general manager of Lords Hotel reported.
Making the festival more attractive, the Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Limited (TCGL) hosted various activities such as crafts mela, adventure sports, cultural shows, rides and boating. As Saputara is en-route to Shirdi and tourists take a halt here for few hours only, but with the introduction of many entertainment options, tourists are staying here for more than a day.
Dinesh Dasa, the director in Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Ltd stated, “Normally monsoon is considered a slack season in most tourist destinations, but it does not apply to Saputara anymore. The festival has proved to be a major attraction. So far, Diwali, New Year and summer vacation were the most favoured period to come, but now large numbers of tourists are coming even during this fest.”
Keeping an eye on the rush of tourists, the authorities have estimated that around 3.5 lakh tourists will flock to Saputara by the end of this month. Besides the vibrant hues of festival, the scenic locations of the hill resort are also fascinating tourists.
