The Launch of Trekkers Software Get Delayed

The launch of much-awaited software meant for trekking enthusiasts has been delayed owing to the lack of proper coordination between the Nepal Tourism Board and Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal. The software will be helpful in managing all the data of trekkers at different trekking routes of the country in order to maintain their security and rescue operations if required.

Trekkers Software

The Information Management System (TIMS) of the software automatically manages the trekking information of the trekkers. Right now, the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) are handling all the trekking related information manually.

Ganga Sagar Pant, the chief executive officer of the association stated, “The association has prepared a software to manage the TIMS data but NTB has not shown its interest to bring the software into operation.” Discussing further, he stated, “We were all set to introduce the software in January this year, but NTB seems to be hesitant over the introduction of new technology.”

However, NTB’s director, Aditya Baral is of the view that the government body needs to verify the accountability and liability part of this trekking software. He stated, “It only has been three months since TAAN has approached us for starting the TIMS software and being a government body we are checking if it works as per the government rules and regulations.”

For security and rescue purpose, trekkers will have to fill up a form along with all the personal details; all this information will be recorded in the TIMS software throughout the expedition.
